I visited Lois Roth Getty in July. We were good friends in high school and off and on kept in touch since 1960. In spite of a friendship for alll those high school years I somehow remained ignorant of the truly exceptional person she is because I've never heard her brag about herself. In July I learned about her dedication, her energy, and her creativity. I saw photos of the house where she did a lot of stone work by herself. She had a garden and animals besides 3 children and a husband to care for. However, she was a full time nurse at night!  She and Marvin took several Rhodes Scholar trips after their children were grown. When Marvin bacame ill with Parkinson's disease, she took care of him at home until the very end of his life. Now she attends tai chi exercise classes twice a week; after she's finished there, she volunteers at a thrift shop. She goes to church regularly. She has made several quilts, is currently working on a puzzle that requires two tables, and is completing a painting. I told her that she seems to be winding up as I'm winding down my activities. She'll never tell this stuff about herself so I thought I would. I hope you don't mind, Lois.
